The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive weekend which featured two wins over 22 ranked Wofford. Samford is sitting fourth in the SoCon standings at the moment. Coach David said the Wofford wins are a big confidence boost.
Bobby Bowden, who passed away in August, was a Samford University (then Howard College) graduate and was a standout on the football team from 1949 to 1952. As a quarterback, he earned Little All-America honors following his senior season.
Samford senior quarterback Liam Welch passed for a school-record 570 yards, but it was not enough as the Bulldog football team dropped a 38-37 decision to 19th-ranked VMI Saturday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
With practice a little over a week away and gameday five weeks away, both JSU and Samford said they’ve learned a lot from watching the Power 5 play this fall, and they’re ready to begin the season, during a season, they never thought they’d ever play in.
