Pres. Trump speaks with China’s President Xi
TikTok and future visits topped the agenda
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping Friday. The two leaders discussed a number of topics and also agreed to soon meet in person.
President Trump described his Friday call with President Xi as “very good” with Xi calling their discussion “very productive.” Among the issues on their agenda - trade, fentanyl, the need to bring the end the war in Ukraine and approval of the TikTok deal.
The President also writing on Truth Social: “I also agreed with President Xi that we would meet at the APEC Summit in South Korea, that I would go to China in the early part of next year, and that President Xi would, likewise, come to the United States at an appropriate time.”
Later in the Oval Office, President Trump repeated his position, “I think China wanted to see it stay open too, and I can tell you the young people in our country wanted to see it stay open very badly.”
Earlier this week, President Trump signed an executive order that extends the deadline on the US TikTok ban until December 16th. The President said both sides agreed on a framework for a deal that would reportedly create a new U.S. entity to operate the popular social media app, with American investors holding a roughly 80% stake and Chinese shareholders owning the rest.
As for efforts to end the war in Ukraine, President Trump has refrained from imposing secondary tariffs on China, which is the largest purchaser of Russian oil. The European Union on Friday rolled out its 19th sanctions package - pledging to end Russian liquified natural gas imports by early 2027.
