Hoover gets another rescue unit as a gift from the Jefferson County Commission
HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) - The city of Hoover gets another lifesaving rescue unit to help better respond to emergencies in the city and unincorporated Jefferson County
This is now the city’s ninth rescue unit, and it comes as a gift from the Jefferson County Commission.
Last year, The Hoover Fire Department met with the Jefferson County Commission to explore options of getting another rescue unit. The Hoover Fire Department runs part of unincorporated Jefferson County and also provides mutual aid to Jefferson County departments if requested.
This is the first time the commission has gifted the city with a rescue unit.
This new unit will not be ready for another couple of months, but once complete it will be slightly different from the city’s other units.
This new unit will be the first to operate off gasoline. The current units operate off diesel.
It’s called a type one which is a Ford F150 with a patient care box on the back.
EMS captain Joel West says, this is a win win for everyone.
“It also gives us a new rescue unit for our fleet that will also run within the city of Hoover. So having newer, nicer and more dependable rescue units would benefit both the city and Jefferson County,” West says.
West told WBRC with every new truck they receive they are able to take a current truck and put it in reserve to be used as a backup and replace their oldest unit.
