BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham Police are asking for help solving a 20-year-old homicide.

Warren Sims, 28, was shot by two people Dec. 13, 2003 after he went to a store in the 2400 block of Avenue E.

Police say a preliminary investigation reveals the suspects followed Sims from inside the store and fired shots at him after he tried to run when he got outside.

He was taken to UAB Hospital where he died. Sims was a husband and father to three children.

For his widow Lisa Taylor, she says she does not think the people responsible knew Sims. She thinks they were trying to rob him.

At the time of his death she remembers him being a present father to their three children ages 12, 9, and 7. She adds it left an impact on them growing up.

“It was very impactful. My youngest at the time, he had on a big bomber jacket and she was like, why didn’t the jacket protect the bullets.”, said Taylor One word that comes to mind with Warren’s death is legacy. That was taken from his family by this tragic senseless homicide.”.
