BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The highly anticipated Magic City Classic is rapidly approaching, and as fans gear up to revel in the festivities and the much-awaited game, WBRC is On Your Side to remind vendors looking to set up shop in and around Legion Field about the essential permits and licenses required for their businesses.

Whether you’re planning to sell delectable food, trendy clothing, or any other merchandise, it’s imperative that you ensure you have the correct permits and licenses in place. In addition, if you anticipate parking more than 10 cars on your property, a permit is also mandated. For businesses with brick-and-mortar establishments wishing to vend at the game, a special events permit is an absolute necessity.

Birmingham city leaders are urging vendors to proactively apply for these permits to ensure compliance with the law on game day. Their message is clear: they are committed to assisting vendors and fostering a spirit of cooperation rather than hindering their ability to serve the citizens. Yolanda Lawson, Manager of Tax Collections in Birmingham, emphasized, “We will do everything we can to help you come into compliance; we’re not in the business of trying to stop people from producing or servicing our citizens. We want them to be there, and we want to be there to assist them. Taxes and licenses are used to provide those services that the city utilizes, and there’s a large increase of services during the Magic City Classic, so this, in turn, is used for a portion of that.”

Furthermore, if you intend to sell alcohol at Legion Field, it’s imperative to obtain approval from the ABC Board. Vendors operating in the vicinity of the property are explicitly prohibited from selling alcohol.

It’s essential to note that if you plan to sell food, merchandise, or beverages during the Magic City Classic, you must possess a current City of Birmingham business license and a Jefferson County Department of Health food permit. If you’re yet to acquire these essential documents, assistance is available.
