OXFORD, Ala. (WBRC) - A man died in a house fire in Oxford Tuesday morning, according to Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown.
Oxford Fire Chief Gary Sparks said the department received a call at 6:19 a.m. for a house fire in the 800 block of Boozer Drive.
The first firefighters on the scene reported heavy fire and smoke consuming over half of the home. They went into a window on the opposite end of the home to look for survivors, but due to the changing fire conditions they had to leave the home and went on a defensive attack until the fire was under control.
There were six people inside the home when the fire started, firefighters were immediately able to confirm five made it out safely. Once they could go back inside the home, they found the body of a sixth person. The man’s name has not yet been released.
The fire is under investigation by the Oxford Fire Department, Oxford Police Department, and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office.
