Two-vehicle crash on U.S. 278 in Cullman County claims life of Altoona man

CULLMAN CO., Ala. (WAFF) - A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 278 blocked the roadway near Cullman County Road 1640 for hours on Wednesday.
Around 11:55 a.m. on March 16, Lucas Spencer Holton, age 21 of Altoona, was fatally injured when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a military fuel tanker. According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Trooper Brandon Bailey, Holton was not using his seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred approximately five miles west of Holly Pond. ALEA Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate.
The roadway reopened on Wednesday evening.
