FLORENCE, S.C. (WCSC) - Former President Donald Trump made his way to the Palmetto State Saturday night to speak at a rally held for him in Florence.

Trump began the night speaking on the current situation with Ukraine, in part claiming that under current President Joe Biden, “America’s neither feared nor respected.”

“Despite all of Biden’s weakness, cowardice and incompetence, there is a path for him to end this strategy in Ukraine; without getting Americans snared in a gruesome and very bloody war,” Trump said. “This could lead to World War III.”

The former president went on to say nobody was tougher on Russia than him.

“I see what’s happening because if you think Putin is going to stop, it’s going to get worse and worse,” Trump said. “He’s not going to accept it. And we don’t have anyone to talk to him. You had somebody to talk to him with me.”

A spokesperson for The Democrats War Room issued the following statement in response to some of Trump’s comments on Russian President Vladimir Putin:

Let’s be very clear — the leader of the Republican Party’s consistent praise and excuses for Vladimir Putin as he launches his war and bombs Ukrainian civilians is disgusting, and in any other reality, disqualifying. After calling Putin a ‘genius,’ Trump added more praise for Putin tonight by calling him ‘a man that is just driven.’ Republicans continue to enable Trump, just like they did for four years, by refusing to condemn his praise of a brutal authoritarian. The difference couldn’t be clearer as President Biden unites our allies and partners to impose unprecedented sanctions on Russia and arm the Ukrainian people against Putin’s unprovoked war.

Another topic Trump spoke on was the rise in gas prices many customers are seeing at the pumps. After criticizing the Green New Deal and the Democratic Party’s “climate hysteria,” Trump sent praises to South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.

“I tell you what your great governor is promoting,” Trump said. “He’s promoting inexpensive gas for your cars; inexpensive gasoline and he’s also an environmentalist. I have to tell you, Henry we love you.”

Later in the night, the former criticized South Carolina politicians Tom Rice and Nancy Mace who recently held a fundraiser with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

“Unfortunately, for the patriots of South Carolina, you currently have two atrocious RINOs (Republican in name only) there are bad people in the house,” Trump said referring to Rice and Mace. “Who went to Washington sold you out and partnered with the Democrats to stab the Republican Party and frankly to stab our country in the back.”

McMaster spoke earlier at the rally, along with other South Carolina leaders such as Drew McKissick, S.C. GOP Chairman, Russell Fry, S.C. Lawmaker/ running for S.C. District 7 against Rice and Katie Arrington, running for S.C. District 1 and challenging Mace.
