Hanceville Police Lieutenant dies after suffering stroke

HANCEVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - Officials with the Hanceville Police Department confirm to WBRC that Lieutenant Kevin Pounders died Sunday morning.

Pounders suffered a stroke on Saturday night related to his admission to UAB due to COVID complications, according to a post from the Hanceville PD. Lt. Pounders had been working in law enforcement for nearly 24 years. He had been hospitalized with COVID and had been placed on a ventilator.

From the Hanceville PD Facebook post: Due to exigent and untenable decisions by an estranged related associate of Lt. Pounders, a separate funeral and memorial service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Hanceville Civic Center at 2 p.m. This service will be held in conjunction with his mother and family. Lieutenant Pounders will receive full police honors.

Other law enforcement agencies and the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend.
