BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham police say a FedEx driver has been detained after a man was hit and killed on I-59 south at the Roebuck exit.

Authorities say this accident happened around 12:25 p.m. on Thursday. Officers arrived on scene and discovered the body of 33-year-old Euriticulus De Shawn Williams near the interstate guardrail.

Williams was working with a crew hired to clean litter from the interstate when he was struck.

Witnesses identified the vehicle that left the scene as a white FedEx van.

Police say around 12:50 p.m. officers spotted the vehicle on Gadsden Highway. After executing a traffic stop, a female driver was taken into custody.
