UPDATE: Authorities ID man shot and killed outside Chevron station

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham police officers are investigating a deadly shooting and possible theft outside the Chevron on Ensley Avenue.

The call came over after 9:00 a.m.

Officers said a man was shot in the parking lot. He was taken to UAB.

The victim has been identified as Robert Jonathan Roy. He was 41.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel took Roy to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests he may have been shot during an attempted theft.

Several officers and crime scene investigators were on the scene at 2301 Ensley Avenue. Officers put markers on the ground next to several power tools.
