Northside HS student killed, another student injured in single-vehicle crash
WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - Northside High School principal Tony Dunn called Monday a tough day at school.
Emotions ran high because students are coping with the death of a classmate, and concern for another student injured in that same car crash.
Students and staff at Northside High School felt stunned by the accident involving two students Sunday.
Eighteen-year-old senior Josh Lucas was killed in the crash.
“Josh will be remembered, and Josh will always be a part of the 2021 graduating class. And that’s what our role is, is to honor all,” Principal Tony Dunn said.
State Troopers said the vehicle went off the road during a turn on Highway 124 in Walker County.
On Monday, counselors and others were on campus to support those who are grieving.
“We let them know we care. We let our students know we’re here for you. We love you, and whether it be today, tomorrow or two months from now, we’re here because it impacts people in all different ways,” Dunn continued.
He said fellow senior Landon Davis, who was in the vehicle with Lucas, survived the crash.
Dunn said that the students were returning from National Guard training exercises at the time of the crash.
“Both of them, that was their goal. Their goal was to be in the military and they both enlisted in the national guard. They were goal driven and that’s what they wanted.”
Davis is home from the hospital recovering, according to Dunn.
Graduation ceremonies for Northside are this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
