BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) -Although this year’s NFL Draft in Cleveland is mainly virtual, there’s 13 players who will be there in person and one of those is former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
Jones, along with four of his other teammates, will hear their name called out in person at the NFL Draft. Jones is projected as the first Tide player off the board to the San Francisco 49ers as the third overall pick. With a talented list of QB’s in this year’s draft, Jones believes he fits in well with the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan’s offense given his ability to play fast and his intelligence.
“We all have great tape, but what separates me is my preparation and my ability to take what I learn from the coaches meetings and my own meetings and apply it to the field and I’m going to do exactly what the coach tells me to do. I’m going to play within the framework of the offense. Like at Alabama, I was asked to throw bubble passes and throw down the field, and I did whatever Coach Sark wanted me to do and if another team wants me to run zone reads or do something like that, I will, I’m willing to do whatever,” Mac Jones said.
As far as Jones’ teammates, Patrick Surtain is projected as the tenth overall pick while Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle are expected to be chosen midway through the first round.
The NFL Draft begins Thursday.
