FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) - Fultondale and Jefferson County leaders held a dedication Tuesday of the new storm shelter located on Main Street in the City of Fultondale.

The location of the storm shelter sits within the path of the Tuscaloosa – Birmingham EF4 tornado that hit the city on April 27, 2011.

Neighbors also held a memorial service in remembrance of the lives lost.

The shelter was designed and constructed to resist wind speeds and wind-borne debris impacts during an extreme-wind event, such as tornadoes, for the purpose of providing life-safety protection.
