Surgeon, COVID-19 survivor, back at work helping others

Surgeon back after COVID-19 battle

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Dr. Jeffery Davis, a surgeon at Andrews Sports Medicine, is a COVID-19 survivor and back at the practice following a stay in ICU and a long journey with the virus.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Davis was admitted to UAB with COVID-19 a few days prior to Thanksgiving 2020 and was released a few days prior to New Year’s Eve.

Dr. Davis was in ICU much of that time. He spent some time on the ventilator, and a lot of time on the ECMO machine.

Following his recovery, Davis has full use of his hands, and his mind is as sharp as ever. His only current side effect is having to periodically be on oxygen, at his doctor’s request. The great news is they expect his lungs to make a full recovery.

Dr. Davis returned to the Andrews offices on January 26, 2021 and began seeing patients again on March 12. He returned to performing surgeries on March 18, 2021.

Davis spoke with the Good Day Extra crew Friday morning.
