Birmingham PD: Man found shot dead, sitting upright in a chair on a porch

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Birmingham Police Department said detectives are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found shot dead on the porch.

The Birmingham Police received a call of a single shot fired in the 500 block of Saint Charles Avenue SW on Saturday, March 13 just before 10:00 p.m. Officers said upon arrival, they discovered a man on the porch sitting upright in a chair unresponsive. After further investigation, it was determined the man suffered from a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as 63-year-old Levert Mickens.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the victim was involved in some form of an altercation with the suspect before being shot.

The Birmingham Police Department has a person of interest in custody for further questioning.
