HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said a man was found dead after he fell from an interstate overpass bridge onto I-65 South Wednesday night.
The coroner said the man was found after the fall at 11:52 p.m. at mile marker 259.5.
The man died at UAB Hospital early Thursday morning.
The Hoover 911 center received a call of a single vehicle crash on I-65 south near the I459 interchange. Officers said additional callers reported the driver of the wrecked vehicle was walking toward the overpass and was climbing over the railing.
Officers and Hoover Fire medics arrived on scene to find a 42-year-old man standing on the guardrail, threatening to jump onto the interstate below.
Police shut down both I-65 and I-459 while a negotiator attempted to convince the man to climb down.
After 30 minutes of talking with the man, officers said he jumped from the guardrail onto the ground below. The man’s identity has not been released.
