City of Birmingham to open Boutwell Auditorium as warming station

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The city of Birmingham will open Boutwell Auditorium as a warming station beginning January 8 until January 13 because freezing temperatures are expected those evenings.

The operating hours will be 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. each day.

The Boutwell is located at 1930 Rev. Abraham Woods Blvd.

The following items will be accepted as donations:

  • Washable blankets in twin and full sizes
  • Individually wrapped breakfast type items such as honeybuns, muffins, nutrition bars, oranges and bananas
  • Cleaning supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, spray disinfectants and air fresheners
  • Socks, scarves, toboggans, hand warmers, gloves

Coats and other type clothing will not be accepted.

If you would like to donate any of these items, you may pull in front of Boutwell and someone will unload your vehicle.

Crews will accept donations January 8, 11 and 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Boutwell and January 9 and 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. also at Boutwell.
