BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham Police Department (BPD) released a public service announcement regarding guns on its social media channels and website.
The PSA features Public Information Officer Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin, who says that BPD has taken more than 2,000 firearms off the streets this year.
Also in the video, Mauldin acknowledges there are many ways that people can obtain firearms illegally; however, one of the easiest ways is when gun owners fail to secure their firearms.
Mauldin gives the example of how it could take less than 10 seconds for someone to open an unlocked car and retrieve a firearm stored inside. That firearm could then be used to commit a host of violent crimes.
