PLEASANT GROVE, Ala. (WBRC) - Police in Pleasant Grove say they are searching for at least 12 suspects after an early-morning smash-and-grab burglary at a gun store.
Lt. Danny Reid says the burglary happened around 3:20 a.m. when a vehicle was used to pulled the front door of Pleasant Grove Gun Supply off the hinges. He says 12-13 people then ran inside and took everything they could.
Lt. Reid says from start to finish the crime has 2 minutes and 50 seconds. He says the suspects were inside the store for only 10-15 seconds.
“The door came off and there was a flood of individuals,” Lt. Reid said.
Lt. Reid stated they recovered 29 handguns in total. Police have recovered several today and are working with the ATF to make sure all guns are accounted for.
Police say there is surveillance of the crime and it will be released Tuesday. This is the seventh time Pleasant Grove Gun Supply has been robbed in the last several years.
“They’ve been hit numerous times over the years and each time he’s hardened it. There are steel bars, there are gates, there are cameras, shatter-proof glass. It’s about as hardened of a structure as you can make one,” Lt. Reid said.
Police early Tuesday morning confirmed a scene on I-59/20 involving a red car wrecked off the shoulder of the interstate was connected to the burglary. Police were seen by the WBRC crew pulling guns from the vehicle.
