Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox: ‘As Americans, we must meet this moment with purpose’

TUSCALOOSA Ala. (WBRC) - City leaders and University of Alabama leaders released statements Sunday in the aftermath of the deaths of George Floyd and others.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox addressed the role of public safety and community trust as people speak out and protest Floyd’s death.

Mayor Walt Maddox, District 2 Councilor Raevan Howard, and Police Chief Brent Blankley also announced plans to address the community Monday, June 1 at 11:45.

Alabama Football head coach Nick Saban said now is a time for us to all come together and choose tolerance, respect, kindness and understanding.

Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne said, “Our hearts are heavy for all of those who have suffered from racism and bigotry.”
