17-year-old charged in early-morning shooting death of Hewitt-Trussville student

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - A 17-year-old from Trussville has been charged with capital murder in the killing of a Hewitt-Trussville student..

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Trent Thomas Parkerson. The suspect is 17-year-old Steve Lafoy.

The shooting happened on April 1 around 3:20 a.m. at a home in the 7600 block of Happy Hollow Road. Trussville police say they responded to a call of shots fired and arriving officers found the victim inside a locked car suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim died at the scene.

Police say the suspect is who called 911. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Investigators say there was a physical altercation prior to the shooting over an alleged theft. A rifle was recovered from the scene and investigators say the victim was leaving at the time he was shot.

Lafoy has been transferred to Jefferson County Jail and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
