SHELBY CO., Ala. (WBRC) - UPDATE: NWS Birmingham has upgraded the Shelby County tornado to an EF-2. NWS scientists say the upgrade comes after looking at extensive tree damage along the Cahaba River and radar data. The Helena part of the track remains at EF-0.

NWS crews flew over the damage with Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies Friday.

ORIGINAL: NWS crews have confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in western Helena Thursday morning.

The NWS says investigators will revisit the area when they can get better visual access.
