People cut the ribbon to the Black Belt Workforce Center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - West Alabama Works cut the ribbon on the Black Belt Workforce Center Friday. The resource center is a career development hub for businesses looking to train employees for jobs in West and Southwest Alabama. West Alabama Works partnered with Central and SAWDC Alabama Works to make the project happen.

The center is similar to the West Alabama Works Brookwood Workforce Center, that opened in 2017. Employers and workers can go there for training, help with job applications and resumes, or use the facility’s computer lab.

“It really is to impact our rural counties and help bridge the education, the training to the jobs we actually have, cause there’s a lot of great jobs in rural Alabama," explained Donny Jones, Executive Director of West Alabama Works.

Nearly 17,000 people have registered for jobs at the Brookwood Center through West Alabama Works’ Career Connect online job application service. They hope to help many at the Demopolis location.
