BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Mayor Randall Woodfin announced a new set of stairs will be built in the center of the downtown library.

The stairs will replace the escalator, which is out of operation, and has been for some time.

People have complained on social media and through phone calls about the broken escalator.

Woodfin joined the Birmingham Public Library Board of Trustees and BPL Executive Director Floyd Council for Tuesday’s announcement.
