CENTER POINT, Ala. (WBRC) - Four units at a Center Point apartment complex were damaged in a fire Wednesday morning.

A witness says his uncle helped four children escape the fire, catching them as they jumped from an apartment window. The man was taken to the hospital with injuries.

“My only concern was my niece upstairs. And her three girls. That was my main thing,” said Joseph Oliver. “I told them do not go in the front room. Come straight out that window. I caught each one of them as they jumped.”

Center Point Fire and Birmingham Fire worked mutually on the fire at Woodside Condominium Apartments on Shadowood Circle, just off Center Point Parkway. The fire was called in by a police officer driving in the area.

Twelve people were affected by the fire.
