HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) - You’ve seen those somewhat chaotic scenes. Fans crowded into the Wynfrey Hotel lobby trying to grab an autograph from their favorite coach or player.
So how do you provide security for something like SEC Media Days? "You know there is always a big group of fans there at the hotel, that are there to seek autographs. And we'll be there trying to help as many folks get autographs as we can without impeding the flow of the events there," said Lt. Keith Czeskleba, Hoover Police.
While the Wynfrey is somewhat its own environment, you can't escape the fact that it is attached to the Riverchase Galleria.
The mall has seen two shooting incidents in the last year. The most recent one came just a few weeks ago in a parking deck.
Czeskleba says despite that, he expects Media Days to go off without a hitch. "Media Days is kind of contained to the Wynfrey and really, other than the initial parts where you first come in, once the coaches get to where the actual media members are it’s what I would consider a sterile environment,” said Czeskleba. “All in all, we’re not anticipating any issues.”
Hoover Police will have extra officers on site, but Czeskleba adds that’s something they have always done. “We’re not really doing anything differently. We’ve done this for several years. And we’re really just excited that it’s back in Hoover,” said Czeskleba.
