Golf tournament held in Anniston honoring first African American county commissioner

ANNISTON, Ala. (WBRC) - Cane Creek Golf Course at McClellan is the site for the James “Pappy” Dunn golf tournament. The tournament is sponsored by the Epsilon Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The tournament is held in honor of James A. “Pappy” Dunn, a long-serving Calhoun County educator and politician, who died on August 14, 2012.

This is their fifth annual golf tournament. The tournament is a fundraiser for the chapter’s scholarship fund. They present scholarships to graduating students in Talladega and Calhoun County every year. This year, they presented six $500 scholarships.

The tournament takes place at 12:30 p.m. on May 31, 2019, at the Cane Creek Golf Course at McClellan (2247 Galloway Gate Road Anniston, AL 36205). Player entry fee is $70.00; hole sponsorship is $100.00; Corporate sponsorship (includes registration for 4 players and advertising) is $500.00. To register, call Fred Wilson at 256-239-6548.
