BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Samford baseball team left Monday afternoon for the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. The Bulldogs, 39-16 overall, earned the number one seed in the tournament and won the SoCon regular-season title for the first time in program history.
“It’s hard to continue to play well for this long. We play a 56-game schedule and then roll into the tournament. In our league, the number one seed hasn’t won in several years, so there’s a lot of pressure from that standpoint to play really good baseball and beat teams you’ve beat in the regular season,” said Samford Baseball Head Coach Casey Dunn.
The Bulldogs, who won the SoCon Baseball Tournament last year, will open tournament play Wednesday at 8 a.m. against the winner of #8 Western Carolina vs. #9 The Citadel.
