TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - We’re just hours away from ALDOT closing Skyland Boulevard in both directions underneath I-59/20.
Road crews set up detour signs and made other changes to warn drivers they'll need to plan for alternate routes.
Friday from 11pm to 5am Monday morning, Skyland Boulevard, also called US 11, will shut down.
That’s so crews can tear down the eastbound bridge along the interstate as part of an ongoing road improvement project.
Message boards will go up there and law enforcement will be on site to assist motorists.
ALDOT completed a similar bridge replacement project here weeks ago.
“We did McFarland Boulevard a few weeks ago. Now we’re moving to Skyland Boulevard. We didn’t have many issues at all on McFarland. We hope to have that same success this weekend,” ALDOT Spokesman John McWilliams explained.
Drivers could take highway 215 as an alternate route according to McWilliams.
