BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - You’ve heard the numbers, but do you really know how dangerous texting and driving is?

WBRC teamed up with AAA Alabama and the Hoover Police Department to demonstrate the dangers.

According to research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 97% of drivers surveyed say texting/emailing while driving is a serious or very serious threat to safety. However, 45% of those people admit to having read a text or email, and 35% admit to having typed one.

"You just can't do two things at one time. You either have to text or you have to drive," said Clay Ingram, AAA Alabama.

“Just put the phone down and get to your destination safely that’s the moral of the story,” said Hoover Police Officer Brian Hale.
