BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Crime Stoppers just released frightening video from a Waffle House in Pinson.
It shows a man with a gun demanding money from employees and customers.
And just a couple days before that robbery, there was another armed robbery at a Metro PCS in Birmingham.
And in both robberies, you see innocent customers watching in total fear.
Now, we’re hearing from Crime Stoppers about what you should do if you’re ever in this situation.
They say the key is not to agitate the robber.
While you remain calm and comply, get a good look at the crook so you can give vital information to police.
James Davis with Crime Stoppers described the surveillance video showing the robbery at the Waffle House in Pinson.
“The employees reported that he said, ‘You know what this is.’ And proceeded to rob them. He produced a handgun. He pointed the handgun at the employees. It was a very, very dangerous situation,” said Davis.
It was a dangerous situation not only for those Waffle House employees on Pinson Boulevard, but also for the innocent customers eating breakfast while this all went down Saturday morning.
“These victims handled it perfectly,” said Davis.
One of the victims put his hands up and gave the armed robber what he wanted.
Meanwhile, the employees filled a bag with cash.
And just a couple days before, there was another robbery.
This one happened at a Metro PCS store in Birmingham.
One of the armed robbers held a customer at gunpoint as the others stole cash from the register.
“Any time you have customers present, it always increases the danger,” said Davis. “The more victims that the offender comes into contact with, the more chance there is that something can go wrong.”
But in both cases, the customers remain calm and comply.
“You don’t want to appear a threat to him,” Davis said. “If he already has a gun in his hand, and he’s agitated, and he’s committing an armed felony, you don’t want to do anything that’s going to make him perceive you as a threat.”
Davis says, as you’re complying, take that time to get a good look at the suspect and pick out any details that are unique to the crook.
In the Waffle House armed robbery, the suspect had a distinct ring on his left ring finger.
Detectives are hoping someone might recognize that ring or his Yankees hat and call Crime Stoppers for a possible reward.
