Thousands of dollars in t-shirt sales raised for family of Sgt. Wytasha Carter

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Total strangers surprised the family of Birmingham police Sergeant Wytasha Carter with a big check and a lot of love.

JonDavid Franklin and his family made t-shirts in honor of Sgt. Carter after he was killed while on duty.

With each shirt sold, they collected money that they’d eventually donate to Sgt. Carter’s wife and kids.

Well, they exceeded their goal of a couple hundred dollars. And the reaction from Sgt. Carter’s wife was priceless, said Franklin.

“Wow,” Franklin said. “I don’t think she knew that it was going to be that much. She probably was just thinking it was going to be a couple hundred dollars, or what our goal was. But, handing her $4,365 was just absolutely amazing.”

Franklin closed the fundraiser after making the shirts for about two months. He said he and his family feel blessed to spread just how big of an impact Sgt. Carter had on Birmingham.
