BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Luis Ivan Adan is many things: a husband, father, son, employee, and now a college graduate.
Adan recently received a degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in electrical and computer engineering. It took him more than 10 years to get his bachelor’s degree.
While working at Alabama Power, Adan decided to go to college at 28.
“I had a full-time job and a family, that’s what made this such a long journey,” said Adan. “Sure I felt like quitting at times, but what kind of message would I be sending to my children. Plus, my mom did not teach me to be a quitter.”
Adan was born in Mexico and came to America as a 15-year-old boy. He learned English, became a United States citizen, graduated from high school, got a job, then married, became a father, and is now a college graduate.
