BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Some residents in Vestavia Hills will be without water for most of the day on Wednesday.
The Birmingham Water Works is planning to turn off water to approximately 400 homes to make repairs to a line.
"We have four valves, and two of them have broken,” said Rick Jackson, Birmingham Water Works Board Spokesperson.
The work is being done at the intersection of Coventry Drive and Rocky Ridge Road.
The shutoff will be from approximately 8:00am to 8:00pm. The water works also warns there could be some discoloration in the water after it’s turned back on.
“That's only because once we have to restore water, after a period of time like that, we have to flush the system as well. So after a while, things will get back to normal," said Jackson.

The city says they have backup plans for the fire department, like alternate hydrants, and fire service will still be available during the shutoff.
