Man starts community rose garden in Leeds

LEEDS, AL (WBRC) - A man in Leeds is doing his part to help brighten up the community.

Albert Daw has started a community rose garden for all to enjoy.

You can bring a rose bush to dedicate in honor of a loved one, and pay $25 for it to be planted there, fed throughout the season and have a plaque with your loved ones name.

“It has ‘In memory of’ and it has the name of the variety of the rose," said Daw. "That way in case the flower was to die, we can replace it with the same variety and put the plaque back on.”

Saw said he has been wanting to find a way to brighten up the area for some time now. He said he went to the city asking if there was somewhere he could start this project. They offered him an empty area at Moton Park.

They are also adding fruit trees to the garden as well as arches and benches for you to sit and enjoy the sights.

Daw said next year they also plan to add a community garden so people can grow their own vegetables.
