FIRST ALERT: Strong storms possible Saturday afternoon
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Happy Friday! We are dealing with another morning with clouds and humidity. Temperatures are in the 60s and 70s. We are dealing with a few thundershowers this morning. Most of the activity has been confined in North Alabama. Showers and storms will move to the east and leave most of us dry for the morning and early afternoon hours. We can’t rule out an isolated storm or two this afternoon and evening, but the models are showing us mostly dry with a partly cloudy to mostly cloudy sky. Rain chance at 20 percent. High temperatures in the mid-80s.
NEXT BIG THING: Storms will be likely as we go into Saturday. Models are hinting at the possibility of seeing showers and storms in the morning hours. They also consistently show another round of storms firing up as we go into the afternoon and evening hours. If you have any outdoor activities planned Saturday, make sure you constantly monitor the sky. If you hear thunder, you should go indoors.
FIRST ALERT: We want to give you a first alert for the potential to see a few strong or severe storms Saturday. The main threat will be damaging winds, hail, and frequent lightning. The tornado threat is very low with this system but not zero. Best time to see strong and severe storms will be after 2 p.m. Saturday (in West Alabama) and going into the late evening hours (8 p.m.).
GRADUAL CLEARING: Sunday is shaping up to be fairly nice. We can’t rule out a few stray showers early in the morning, but the sky should begin to clear as temperatures climb near 80 degrees. Monday is shaping up to be beautiful with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid-80s. Humidity levels should be much lower Sunday and Monday behind this system.
STORM CHANCES RETURN NEXT WEEK: Models continue to show a stalled boundary in place across the Southeast next Wednesday through Sunday that could give us scattered storms every day. We should have plenty of opportunities to see rain, so that is good news if you have a garden.
Make sure you download the WBRC First Alert Weather app. It will notify you if storms are nearby. Plus, we can notify you on the latest weather forecasts should anything change.
Have a wonderful weekend!
