MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Auburn men’s basketball team did a lot of celebrating this season, which included a lot of “firsts” for this Tiger squad. And there was yet another celebration held Wednesday. This time... at the Governor’s Mansion.

It was quite the historic season for the Auburn men’s basketball team. They enjoyed their first 30-win season, first SEC title in 30 years, plus their first ever trip to the Final Four, taking down Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky in the process.

The team was honored by Gov. Kay Ivey and several Alabama dignitaries for their achievements this season. Despite falling short of the goal of winning a national title, this Auburn team has left a lasting impact on the state of Alabama.

“I am so incredibly proud of these young men and these student athletes. I can’t even begin to tell you," said Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl. "I’m so very grateful to my coaching staff. I’m so appreciative of the support we received.”

“With these group of guys and our coaching staff, we played hard and we worked for the moment. It was a great time to experience. It was just a great experience with my brothers,” said Auburn guard/forward Malik Dunbar.

“We were able to make history and be the first time ever in Auburn basketball history to go to the Final Four. Being able to do that was great and it’s going to mean a lot going forward,” said Auburn guard Jared Harper.

The message now to the 2019-2020 Auburn Tiger team is you have some big shoes to fill next season.
