PELL CITY, AL (WBRC) - A suspect is in custody and will face charges Monday for a fatal stabbing in Pell City.

Pell City Police Chief Paul Irwin says officers responded to a call of a person stabbed in Shady Dale Mobile Home Park on Friday night. Officers also responded to St. Vincent’s Hospital in St. Clair County where the victim had been taken in a personal vehicle.

Responding officers to the hospital discovered 23-year-old Demario Jovohyn Sanders suffering from a stab wound to the torso. The victim was transported to UAB Hospital but died from his injuries.

Chief Irwin says a suspect was taken into custody in Talladega after investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and the scene was processed. He says the suspect will be identified following a formal murder charge on Monday.

“I am confident that we have the person who is responsible for this crime,” Chief Irwin said in a press release.

Chief Irwin says the suspect and victim knew each other and lived in the area. This is not believed to be a random act.

We will provide more information when it is available.
