Nearly 20 cars broken into in Crestwood overnight Thursday

Crestwood car break-ins

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Some car burglars were busy over night in Birmingham.

If you went to the Crestwood town homes on Friday morning you would have seen a number of cars with their windows broken.

“I was really shocked because my neighbor called me and said you need to come out and check out your car. We have some cars broken into,” Dietriche’ Nolan said.

At some point overnight, would-be burglars broke into about 16 cars.

The cars were locked and ransacked, but Nolan said apparently nothing was taken.

“One of my neighbors left his wallet, all of his identification in that. It was not taken. My other neighbor aid she had money in her hand rest that was not taken,” Nolan said.

Neighbors suspect the crooks may been looking for guns or possibly drugs. Nolan says her neighbors will discuss with the homeowners association about beefing up lighting in the parking lot and other security steps.

“One thing we did talk about as we gathered together, how when people wake up in the middle of the night, how they check around their surroundings and lookout the windows. That is something I do constantly,” Nolan said.

The Birmingham Police Department has taken a report and is investigating the burglaries. Nolan says she still feels safe in her neighborhood.

“In hindsight I wish I had left my car door open,” Nolan joked.

If anyone has information about the burglaries contact the Birmingham Police Department.
