BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -Good Friday! We had a powerful system move through the state yesterday evening and during the early morning hours. It produced several reports of trees down in many locations as an area of low pressure intensified on top of the state. We saw over 130 storm reports for parts of the Southeast with the greatest concentration of storm reports in Mississippi and Alabama. The stormy weather is now to our east, but we are now waiting on an upper level low that will build into the area today.

Our high temperatures for the day likely occurred around midnight. Temperatures will likely drop throughout the day with temperatures in the 50s by this afternoon. We could see temperatures tumble into the 40s by late this evening. We will likely stay mostly cloudy with scattered showers possible at any point during the day. Grab the jacket and dress warmly. It will feel more like a winter day.

First Alert: On top of the cloudy and chilly conditions, we will also have to deal with very breezy conditions. We will likely see westerly winds of 15-25 mph with gusts near 35 mph this afternoon. Some of our models are hinting at very windy conditions happening right around sunset this evening. Saturday: Temperatures could drop into the upper 30s and lower 40s Saturday morning. We will likely start the day with clouds and a chance for a few showers mainly in Northeast Alabama. Clouds will likely decrease throughout the day giving us sunshine by the evening hours. High temperatures expected to climb into the mid 60s. It will still remain breezy with west winds at 10-20 mph.

Easter Sunday: Sunday is shaping up to be a beautiful day! We’ll start the morning chilly with temperatures in the low to mid 40s. We will see plenty of sunshine with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Next Week: We’ll likely stay dry for the first half of next week with high temperatures in the lower 80s. Next Rain Chance: Weather models are hinting at small rain chances next Wednesday and Thursday. By next Friday, our next weather maker will give us a decent chance for scattered showers and storms. It is too early to know if this system could result in severe weather. At this moment, the severe threat looks very low.
