HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - Ice cream for breakfast! How amazing is that?
If you scream for ice cream, Saturday is your chance to make the sweet treat your first meal of the day without having to make excuses. That’s because it’s National Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, which is held each year the first Saturday of February.
Bluff Park Ice Cream Shoppe in Hoover is opening on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. for the special day.
“We make homemade Belgium Waffles, and we turn them into waffle sundaes,” explained Alex Hare, manager at Bluff Park Ice Cream shop. “The customer comes in, pick their choice of ice cream, and they can top with one of our Belgium Waffles. We’ve got fruit, we’ve got toppings that they build a sundae with.”
According to Hare, you can get creative with the combinations.
“One that’s really popular is we have blueberry ice cream, and we have Blue Moon ice cream. Blue Moon is basically Fruit Loops, and it goes really good on the waffle,” said Hare.
Another popular choice is topping the waffle with strawberry or blueberry cheese cake ice cream.
“The other one is a maple nut, and it has that maple syrup taste with nuts in it. It goes great with waffles," explained Hare, who said vanilla with fruit toppings is also a popular combination.
This will be the third year Bluff Park Ice Cream Shoppe has opened for National Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. According to Hare, people were lined out the door last year.
“Most people don’t think ice cream is good for breakfast, but it really is really good on a homemade waffle," said Hare.
