BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -A new gaming experience is taking off this week at The Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham.
On Friday night, the museum is teaming up with GameStop for Flight Night at the Museum. The event includes the launch of the virtual reality game, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.
Several stations will be set up with virtual reality headsets. Dr. Brian Barsanti, the Director of the museum, said the PlayStation 4 game gives folks the chance to see what it’s like flying the real deal.
“The experience is going to be literally a hands on experience of what it feels like to be in the cockpit and fly a fighter jet,” explained Barsanti.
Ace Combat 7 takes you through a combat mission, which includes dodging missiles. According to Barsanti, there will be something for all ages at Flight Night.
“This virtual reality game is rated T for teens, but GameStop is going to be here with other experiences for kids of all age,” said Barsanti.
The Southern Museum of Flight is hoping to grow virtual reality experiences in the future. Currently, the museum has a one-on-one flight simulator. There is also a computer lab with group flight simulation, but it’s not full motion.
“Because of this new relationship with GameStop and some of these other exciting things happening, this is something we could perhaps grow into something bigger, something that’s part of the whole museum," explained Barsanti.
Flight Night at the Museum is Friday, January 18th, from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. Buffalo Rock will be providing drinks, and Aaron’s Furniture is helping with the seating.
Tickets are $5.00 a person. You can find more information on the website for the Southern Museum of Flight.
