TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - Shelton State Community College will begin holding meetings next week for Hale County neighbors interested in the automotive and manufacturing industry.
Paul Sanders, a workforce development specialist at the school, showed off the van they’ll use to encourage people to join the program. The car will sit at Greensboro’s Rising Star Baptist church.
“We try to train people for industrial-type settings such as Phifer, such as Goodrich. Any organization that goes into a factory or manufacturing-type setting,” Sanders said.
The five-week course is free, but you have to have a high school diploma or a GED. Sanders believes it could help people in Hale County find good-paying jobs.
“I think it’s important to reach out there because there are limited employment opportunities there. But what this does is open up so they can move into cities that have industrial settings,” he said.
The first information session is Thursday, January 17 from 3-7 p.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church in Greensboro.
