Cullman Caring for Kids food pantry reopens after flood

Cullman food pantry back open after flood

CULLMAN, AL (WBRC) - A Cullman charity is back open thanks to the generosity of the community it serves.

The Cullman Caring for Kids food bank is still drying out. Clean-up crews have been working in the basement after heavy rains flooded that portion of the building a couple of weeks ago. We’re told over 2 inches of water covered the floor

"Every time I see someone they said, ‘Have you built your Ark yet?’ I said, ‘No, but I probably need to,’” Javon Daniel, Director of the Cullman Caring for Kids, said.

The center stored a lot of paper goods and furniture in the basement. Luckily, none of the food was damaged because it’s stored upstairs. Daniel is grateful for all the help he says if the pantry ever has a need, someone always has an answer for it.

"We’ve had people donate food. We had people donate monetary donations and its just awesome. The whole community here in Cullman makes things work. It really makes me proud to be from a place where people care,” Daniel said.

Despite still needing a little help, Cullman Caring for Kids continues to serve. This week the charity fed well over 200 families.
