SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - A Shelby County surgical cardiologist now gets to see the impact a medical invention he helped create is having on heart patients.

Dr. David Fieno started working on this new form of cardiac MRI as an engineer and became so passionate about the heart that it lead him to medical school.

Dr. Fieno is now a surgical cardiologist and uses his invention daily to help patients. This technology allows doctors to take MRIs of hearts to capture clear images of any dead areas.

“It gives that information to help us better diagnose and ultimately treat these patients that becoming more and more complex and we really need those answers,” Dr. Fieno said.

It also helps to keep patients from having to go to multiple appointments to see specialists which can be really expensive. The more information these doctors can get from imaging the better.
