BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - 2019 is expected to be a big year for Hoover City Schools as new facilities open.
The school system broke ground on a 34,000 square foot band suite at Hoover High School late last year. It should be ready to go when kids come back from winter break.
In addition, the new Riverchase Career Connection Center, or RC3, is scheduled to open next fall.
It will give kids training in skilled trades and make many workforce ready.
"This is the first time that a school system with the prowess of Hoover is doing it themselves. So, when they present themselves to Mercedes, Hyundai, or the banks, and the insurance companies, it will be very attractive thing because they’ll be getting a Hoover City School kid that ranks very high,” said Steve McClinton, a Hoover parent and member of the Hoover City Schools Foundation.
In addition, the school board is hoping to make some renovations and classroom expansions at Bluff Park Elementary and Berry Middle school.
Those projects still have to be voted on and bid out.
