The clearing line will pass through tonight

First Alert Weather: 5 p.m. update 12-21-18

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - It’s the first day of winter and it feels like it! Actually, temperatures are much colder than normal and the wind makes it feel even chillier. Dress for feels like temperatures in the 30s! Patchy areas of drizzle remain possible.

We are tracking the clearing line that’s moving into west Mississippi that is forecast to pass through tonight. By daybreak, I anticipate mostly sunny skies, light winds and temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Thankfully the winds and dry weather today will mean a limited threat for black ice on Saturday morning now.

Saturday is the pick of the weekend because it will be sunny and temperatures will be in the middle 50s. The Birmingham Bowl starts at 11 a.m. and it will be in the middle 40s at that time frame.

On Sunday, a weak cold front swings through and will bring us clouds and a small chance for passing showers. I’m calling for highs once again in the middle 50s.

Christmas Eve features dry weather and seasonal temperatures.

Christmas Day still looks mainly dry and mild. Temperatures will reach 60 degrees.

Our Next Big Thing is rain and storms by Thursday and Friday. It’s too early to know if severe weather will be a part of the mix. We will keep you updated though on air and on the WBRC First Alert Weather App.
