(WBRC) - High school football players all over the nation Wednesday morning finally got the chance to sign papers to announce the place they’ll call home for the next four years.

Early signing gives players the opportunity to enroll in college early. They’ll start their college careers in January, as opposed to next fall. This opportunity enhances their chances of learning their respective playing systems and practice with the team a semester early.

The traditional national signing day will still be in February.

The Warriors had five players sign on Wednesday, headlined by quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa signing to join his brother, Tua, at the University of Alabama. Offensive lineman Amari Kight also signed with the Crimson Tide.

In Thompson’s strong early signing day class, Shadrick Byrd signed with the Iowa Hawkeyes and Jayme Simmons and Will Connor each inked their letter of intent with UAB.
