BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Former University of Alabama standout running back Trent Richardson still believes he has plenty of football to be played.
That is why he is ready to make the most of a second chance opportunity to play the game he loves as part of the new Alliance of American Football playing for the Birmingham Iron.
“I have something to prove,” said Richardson. “Prove to myself, as well as everybody else, that I can still be an effective player in the NFL.”
Richardson was once a third overall draft pick coming out of Bama. However, his career never really got going.
Drafted by the Indianapolis Colts, Richardson would later head to Cleveland and later released and failed to latch onto another team. Out of football, Richardson was more than ready to accept an offer to play in the AAF with the Iron.
The inaugural season for the league kicks off in early 2019, and for Richardson he hopes it’s a pit stop to return to the NFL.
